  • Invitation to IAKL’s 17th Annual Conference

We cordially invite you to the 17th annual conference of the International Association of Korean Lawyers (IAKL) to be held in Seoul from October 22 to 25, 2009.

IAKL is a worldwide organization of lawyers of Korean decent from all over the world. Since its foundation in 1988, it has played a pivotal role to support the lawyers of Korean decent by helping its members to exchange information on legal issues and to foster networking and friendship. Over the last years, IAKL has held the annual conferences alternating the venue between Korea and outside of Korea.

2009 annual conference is to be held at the Law School, SungKyunKwan University, which is one of the prestigious law schools in Korea. The organizers of this year’s conference have had very strong support from the Korean Bar Association and the Korean legal community including many prestigious law firms in Korea. The conference has also attracted many outstanding speakers under its main them, “Looking into the Future: Role of Legal Profession.” Panels and programs are scheduled for many interesting and current legal issues, and there will be networking and social functions around Seoul area. Especially for this year, we plan to provide a special session for the young lawyers in order to provide them good inputs in this rapidly changing and dynamic legal field.

IAKL has been participating and supporting various pro bono activities that meet many needs not only in Korea, but also in other Korean communities in the world. In that regard, IAKL has been providing legal services for many years in cooperation with public organizations and community service centers in many regions of the world. Especially, IAKL’s Korean Chapter has registered as Public Service Corporation with the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the end of October, 2007, in order to vitalize its pro bono operations systematically. One of the panel sessions in 2009 conference will also be devoted to the issue of pro bono activities.

2009 annual conference will be a great opportunity for getting to know global leaders in the legal field, to acquire in-depth knowledge of important legal issues in the global context, and to understand different legal systems of many countries. We hope that you would take this great opportunity. Korean attorneys as well as the US attorneys (New York & California) will earn CLE credits by attending the conference.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have volunteered to work in the organizing committee, and also those who volunteered to speak and moderate in the conference.

I hope to see you all in Seoul.

Regards,
